I can’t import Sony EX1 XDCAM EX MP4 to Avid MC8, please help!!!
“Hi, there, I try to import footage from the Sony PMW-EX1 via AMA, and there is text over my clip now that says “wrong format”. So I choose “import” as DNX and it says the file format is not supported for import? I installed the Sony AMA plugin and it didn’t work. It didn’t fix my problem. I even quit and came back in and that plugin doesn’t seem to let me play those mp4 clips. Original structure is there. Untouched. I’m trying to AMA to the “BPAV” folder. So I hold down option and drag the BPAV folder into Avid Media Composer 8. It tells me “Unable to link to any clips at /Volumes”…….I’m on an iMac 10.9.4. Anyone have any solutions? Please help. Urgent!!!”
To be able to work with Sony EX1 XDCAM EX footage in Avid MC8, you will need to download and install the correct Sony AMA Plug in. Then you need to AMA from the folder ABOVE the BPAV folder (not the BPAV folder) not direct to the MP4 files.
If for whatever reason the original folder structure of the EX is gone or the plug-in doesn’t work, you will need to transcode Sony EX1 XDCAM EX MP4 footage to DNxHD, Avid’s native editing codec, which Avid will recognize and handle well. The steps

Step 4: Start Sony EX1 XDCAM EX MP4 footage to DNxHD MOV Conversion
When ready, click ‘Convert’ to start format conversion. As soon as the conversion is complete, you can click ‘Open Folder’ button to get the exported DNxHD MOV files for use in Avid apps with optimum performance.
