How can I work with H.265/HEVC movies in Avid Media Composer without corresponding AMA plugin? This post presents a workaround to make H.265/HEVC movies editable in Avid MC.
Anyone knows when we will have AMA plugin available for HEVC/H.265?
“Hey, guys, I have a new Samsung NX1 camera which records 4K files in HEVC/H.265 codec. The footage is really amazing but I cannot edit it in Avid MC without transcoding right now. The camera came with a utility that converts to H.264 (it’s not a really good format for editing). It works but it is slow (it doesn’t utilize the video card GPU) and the resulting file is about 3.5 times larger. Anyone knows when we will have AMA plugin available for HEVC/H.265? Or is there any other workaround to go through this? Thanks.”
If you are intending to edit H.265/HEVC video files in Avid MC, you will need H.265/HEVC AMA plugin for Avid MC. Unfortunately, this is not supported in the current product, and you will have to transcode to a DNxHD codec for editing purposes. Here’s a quick guide on how to transcode H.265/HEVC video to DNxHD for use in Avid with optimum performance.
