Issues importing XAVC S video to iPad Pro
“Hello everybody, does an iPad pro support XAVC-S media? Honestly, I use the iPad Pro much more than my Mac these days. I would like to edit XAVC S files from my Sony A6300 with iMovie on my iPad. Unfortunately, iPad pro seems not to import XAVC S footage. What should I do to go through this? Has anyone found a good way to import Sony XAVC-S video directly to an iPad Pro? Any ideas?”

Actually, it is possible to import Sony XAVC-S footage directly into an iPad Pro but the process requires a few extra steps and a 3rd party SD card reader. As you know, Apple doesn’t directly support the XAVC-S file structure (as of iOS10) so you can’t use the Apple SD Card reader. The Apple USB adapter is problematic because of power issues between the iPad and the camera. However, processing ‘transcoded editing’ does work. This requires using a 3rd party XAVC-S converter to finish format conversion on a computer before transferring the footage to your iPad pro. Here’s how to.
